What is the difference between the “Increasing Academic Achievement for Diverse Learners” and the SIOP Online or Face-to-Face Institute?

The “Increasing Academic Achievement . . .” given by Hamilton County Educational Service Center Consultants will provide 12 hours of intensive training in research-based instructional strategies (based upon the SIOP Model) but also incorporates strategies from other well-renowned researchers in the field of Second Language acquisition.

SIOP Model Institutes (both ONLINE and Face-to-Face) given by Pearson consultants provides 18 hours of a proven framework for teaching both academic content and language skills in ways that are more effective for English learners, and helps teachers plan and deliver lessons with all students’ language needs in mind.

Do you have to sign up for PD that is offered in your district?

No, Princeton and CPS teachers may attend EITHER location. The locations chosen have ample parking and are centrally located.

What are the locations of the sessions and is there parking available?

The locations chosen have ample parking and addresses are as follows:

How much will participants be paid?

Participants will be paid at their typical hourly rate as determined by Human Resources. Participants will also receive CEU’s for the training sessions. The amount of hours compensated will be dependent upon the length of the professional development sessions you have chosen. For example:

*Increasing Academic Achievement for Diverse Learners = 12 hours
*SIOP Institute (Online or Face-to-Face) = 18 hours

When will I receive payment for participation in PD?

Participants who have met the posted criteria (signed up for PD at least 2 weeks in advance of start date and attend all sessions for the full length) will be paid pending Board approval. Unfortunately, we cannot be more specific about the turnaround time for the payment as the process goes through several steps within multiple departments.

If I am participating in TESOL Endorsement courses, may I also participate in Future CLASS PD Opportunities?

YES! Future CLASS TESOL Endorsement Scholarship Recipients are eligible to participate in the Future CLASS PD and obtain extended time pay. Participants will be paid at their hourly rate that they typically get paid during the school day as determined by Human Resources. Participants will also receive CEU’s for the training sessions. The amount of hours compensated will be dependent upon the length of the professional development sessions (between 12 to 18 hours).

May I attend more than one of the Future CLASS PD Opportunities?

Maybe. We would like to provide as many different staff members in CPS and Princeton the opportunity to attend at least one of these training sessions. However, if space is still available, we may allow you to attend and will contact you via email to confirm your attendance at least 1 week before the start date.

Are the dates and times exact? Will it end on-time?

Yes. Face-to-face training sessions will start on-time and end on-time.
